چکیده
Louis Solomon showed that the group algebra of the symmetric group Sn has a subalgebra called the descent algebra, generated by sums of permutations with a given descent set. In fact, he showed that every Coxeter group has something which can be called a descent algebra. For any Coxeter group that is also a Weyl group, Paola Cellini proved the existence of a different, commutative subalgebra of the group algebra. We derive the existence of such a commutative subalgebra for the cases of the symmetric group and of the hyperoctahedral group using a variation on Richard Stanley's theory of P-partitions.

Ca2+-DEPENDENT INACTIVATION OF Ca2l CURRENT IN APLYSIA NEURONS: KINETIC STUDIES USING PHOTOLABILE
1. The kinetics and sensitivity of the Ca2"-dependent inactivation of calcium current (Ic.) were examined in intact cell bodies from the abdominal ganglion of Aplysia californica under two-electrode voltage clamp. 2. Rapid changes in the level of intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) were generated at the cell surface by photolytic release of Ca2" (nitr-5 and dimethoxy nitrophen) or Ca2" buffer ...
متن کاملCa2+ transient evoked by chemical stimulation is enhanced by PGE2 in vagal sensory neurons: role of cAMP/PKA signaling pathway.
The effect of prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) on chemical stimulation-evoked calcium (Ca(2+)) transient was investigated in isolated vagal sensory neurons of the rat using fura-2-based ratiometric Ca(2+) imaging. Application of capsaicin (3 x 10(-8) to 10(-7) M; 15 s) caused a rapid surge of intracellular Ca(2+) concentration in small- and medium-size neurons; the response was reproducible when >10...

متن کاملCO(2) and pH independently modulate L-type Ca(2+) current in rabbit carotid body glomus cells.
The carotid bodies respond to changes in arterial O(2), CO(2), and pH, and Ca(2+) influx via voltage-gated Ca(2+) channels is an important step in the chemoreception process. The objectives of the present study were as follows: 1) to determine whether hypercapnia modulates Ca(2+) current in glomus cells, and if so, to determine if this modulation is secondary to changes in pH; 2) to examine the...
متن کاملSignaling mechanisms coupled to presynaptic A(1)- and H(3)-receptors in the inhibition of cholinergic contractile responses of the guinea pig ileum.
The mechanisms coupled to adenosine A(1)- and histamine H(3)-receptors have been examined in the presynaptic inhibition of acetylcholine (ACh) release from the guinea pig ileum. Electrically evoked twitch contractions were used as a measure of neuronal ACh release. A(1)- and H(3)-receptors were activated by adenosine and R-(alpha)-methylhistamine (RAMH), respectively. The neuroinhibitory effect...
